Strengths and Weaknesses of IP CCTV

IP CCTV is a new(ish) technology for security and surveillance that has many unique advantages making it a hot favourite for a large number of companies and individuals. The IP CCTV stands for 'Internet Protocol Closed Circuit Television' and this refers to the fact that the camera transmits its data wirelessly to be streamed onto a computer rather than needing cables. In the old meaning of CCTV, the 'closed circuit' in question referred to the connection that kept all of your cameras connected to their television sets and VHS recorders. This represented a closed circuit that others couldn't use. While IP CCTV is not in reality a circuit, the data still is limited to be viewed by those devices that have been granted access.

This results in arrange of different advantages for businesses and individuals and has few drawbacks. First of all, as the term 'wireless' denotes,IP CCTV means that you have far fewer cables and wires to deal with. This is very useful as having lots of wires and cables is not only unsightly but is also disorganised and can be damaging to the devices. Normally with CCTV you would be limited in where you could place your cameras by where the wiring could be done, however with the IP CCTV this is unnecessary and the devices will simply attach wherever you need them with no set up. This means far less money and time spent hollowing out walls to be able to run cables through them, and also means that you aren't restricted by things such as light switches or the desire to place your cameras really high up. While the cost of the IP CCTV might be slightly higher then when compared with traditional CCTV, this is reflected in the fact that there will be less cabling to do and fewer wires to be fixed down the line. This then demonstrates how IP CCTV is a good investment and will start paying for itself almost immediately after installation.

At the same time having your streamed directly to your device has a range of practical advantages. Mostly it means that you won't have to be actually in the premises in order to check up on your business and this means that you can always rest assured your stock and your office are safe (great for those who have trouble switching off). At the same time though this also allows things like password protection and does away with the need for storing large files.

Many good IP CCTV cameras such as LG CCTV also include a range of other features such as VoIP and video analytics - which when used in combination for example can be used to identify when there's a trespasser on your premises and then call for assistance.

Of course with more features that means there is more that can go wrong and this can make it more daunting for those who are less confident with technology and who perhaps don't need as much of a set up for their buildings. Smaller businesses might then decide against IP CCTV, but there are still many LG CCTV systems and others out there for them that will be simpler to use but lack some of the additional bells and whistles.
